Groundbreaking for the Phi Giàng 2 satellite school, Điện Biên

On 12 February 2023, the Green Life Charity Fund (Sống Xanh) and its partners held a groundbreaking ceremony for a “Beautiful Schools for Children” (“Trường đẹp cho em”) project at the Phi Giàng 2 village satellite school of Tủa Thàng Kindergarten, Tủa Thàng commune, Tủa Chùa district, Điện Biên province. The project is expected to be completed and handed over in May 2023.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Vietnam Volunteer Resource Information Centre (Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee), the Điện Biên Provincial Youth Union, the Tủa Chùa District Office of Education and Training, the Tủa Chùa District Youth Union, commune leaders, the school, and teachers, parents and pupils.

One classroom for 43 young children

Phi Giàng 2 is one of four village satellite schools of Tủa Thàng Kindergarten. It lies 17 km from the commune centre and 47 km from the district centre, along a very difficult road. The satellite school has 43 pupils and 2 teachers; all of the children are Hmong, and most come from poor and near-poor households. The old facilities could not meet the children’s needs for eating, resting, learning and play, nor the daily needs of the teachers living in the village.

The project comprises 1 classroom, 1 staff room and 1 auxiliary building, with a total budget of VND 240 million.

“Understanding the difficult journey the children make to school and the effort they put in, and wishing them a spacious, clean place to learn, the Fund called for and raised VND 240 million to help build the school. It is a small material gift, but it carries the care of a great many people.”

— Mr Nguyễn Giang, representative of the volunteer delegation

From the Eco Xmas Fair 2022 to the highlands

More than VND 178 million of the total came from the Sống Xanh Charity Fair — Eco Xmas Fair 2022, which the Fund organised at 5 residential projects; the GCA community alone contributed nearly VND 83 million. Contributors also included Ecolife Property Management JSC, the GCA education system, the Genesis education system, Ecohome 1, 2, 3, EcoLife Capitol and EcoLife Riverside residents, and staff of Capital House Group and its member companies.

On this occasion, the Fund gave the satellite school 3 standing fans, 10 sleeping mats, 50 cloth pillows and 50 fleece jackets for the children; the delegation also visited and gave 10 gift packs of rice, fish sauce, salt and sugar to families in especially difficult circumstances.

The fifth satellite school

Building satellite schools is an annual activity of the Fund, carried out together with residents of Capital House Group’s projects. Since 2016, even through the Covid-19 pandemic, the Fund has helped build 5 satellite schools in Quảng Nam, Hà Giang, Điện Biên, Yên Bái and Quảng Bình, with total donations of nearly VND 1 billion.
