VND 400 million to help schools in Lào Cai and Yên Bái after Typhoon Yagi
The Green Life Charity Fund (Sống Xanh), Capital House Group and the Genesis community repaired the roof of the Khu Chu Phìn satellite school and supported school kitchens and 119 pupils' families affected by Storm No. 3.
After Typhoon Yagi (Storm No. 3) in September 2024, the Genesis School community, the Green Life Charity Fund (Sống Xanh) and Capital House Group raised a total of VND 400 million to support highland schools that had been damaged. On 10 October 2024, Ms Đỗ Thùy Chi – Chair of the Management Board and Director of the Fund – received the donations.
Allocation
- VND 200 million to repair the ceiling and roof of the Khu Chu Phìn satellite school, Sàng Ma Sáo Kindergarten, Bát Xát district, Lào Cai.
- VND 200 million for school kitchens for boarding pupils and for pupils in difficult circumstances in Trấn Yên district, Yên Bái.
Yên Bái: 119 pupils’ families
Three schools – Nga Quán Kindergarten & Primary School, Y Can No. 1 Primary and Lower-Secondary School, and Đào Thịnh Primary and Lower-Secondary School – each received VND 60 million: half for the kitchen for boarding pupils and half as direct support to 119 pupils’ families in difficult circumstances – families with a member with a disability, or whose homes collapsed or were flooded in the storm. The priority list was proposed by the Trấn Yên District Office of Education and Training. Sao Mai Private Kindergarten received VND 20 million to buy teaching materials.
Lào Cai: the last satellite school of the appeal
The Khu Chu Phìn satellite school is about 70 km from the centre of Lào Cai province. The VND 200 million was used to repaint mouldy walls and ceilings and to re-roof more than 120 m² of roof. The team also gave 4 boxes of educational toys worth VND 5 million, and essentials for 15 Hmong households affected by landslides. Mr Sùng A Chứ, Vice Chairman of the commune People’s Committee, thanked the team.
